During my pregnancy yoga classes there is a heavy emphasis on the preparation and strengthening of the pelvis and pelvic floor for your labour.
Alongside mental and emotional support to encourage meeting your baby and parenting in an informed and empowered way. My classes recognise that each pregnancy and birth that a women experiences is a transformative Rite of Passage in her life. They are suitable from 14 weeks up until birth.
What I enjoyed most about the pregnancy yoga classes was the relaxation aspect, the pain relief that I felt after the classes and being amongst like minded people. I wish I had experienced pregnancy yoga before the birth of my previous two sons, as it has really helped me to understand my body and have the confidence for a natural birth this time.
What happens during a pregnancy yoga class?
Asanas (yoga postures) focus on spinal alignment and the re-distribution of weight throughout the body as your baby grows. Prananyama (breathing techniques) are learned to utilise throughout your pregnancy, labour and into your parenting, as well as yoga nidra (mental and physical relaxation techniques).
Throughout the class reasons for the practices performed are offered and time is given to allow the participants to genuinely experience the effect of the yoga practice by combining the breath with the movement of the body. Each session runs in accordance with the due dates of the women present with special practices such as the 'Golden Thread' and 'Birthing Breath' breathing practices learned to help prepare the women's spontaneous breath for labour.
The group dynamic in my classes is very important and I endeavor to create a warm and welcoming space. Providing a weekly time to sink deeply into nurturing yourself and connecting to your baby growing within you. Classes are taught in a circle with opportunity for sharing and making new friendships.
How much do my pregnancy yoga classes cost?
Individually, my pregnancy yoga classes cost £9 per session. If you book four classes the cost is £30 (classes must be taken consecutively). To book your place please use my online booking form where I ask you to answer some questions, and make your payment securely.
When do the classes take place?
Tuesday evenings from 6pm-7.30pm during term time upstairs (see dates below) in the Trevithick Room at the Passmore Edwards Institute in Hayle.
